ABM has recently commenced a major residential development on behalf of Wicklow County Council at Burgage More Road, Blessington, Co. Wicklow. Located on a 3.23-hectare greenfield site, the scheme includes106 high-quality social housing units to help address local housing needs while creating a vibrant and sustainable new community.
The development comprises 70 houses and 36 duplex units, alongside a purpose-built 200sqm crèche facility designed to support families living within the neighbourhood. Extensive supporting infrastructure forms a key part of the project, including site development works, public open spaces, landscaping, drainage and utility networks, as well as significant road infrastructure upgrades.
Carefully designed to support the community, the development features a predominantly two-storey layout with selected three-storey elements, arranged around a series of central public open spaces. These shared landscaped areas will provide attractive, accessible environments for residents of all ages, encouraging social interaction and promoting wellbeing.
Environmental integration has been a fundamental consideration throughout the design process. Existing mature boundary trees are being retained and protected wherever possible, helping to preserve the character of the site and enhance biodiversity. The layout also takes advantage of the site's unique setting, with views towards the nearby Poulaphouca Reservoir contributing to the overall quality of the residential environment.
The project includes the upgrade of an existing T-junction to create a new crossroads, improving access to the development while facilitating future connectivity with adjoining lands as the wider area evolves. This forward-thinking approach ensures the scheme is well integrated with both the existing community and future development opportunities.
